Diagnostic Imaging

Radiology

MRMC’s Radiology Department uses medical radiation and diagnostic imaging techniques in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. The Department provides services in Cardiac Catheterization, Diagnostic Radiology, CT Scanning, Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI.) The Department works with the most advanced technology available allowing the early diagnosis of many diseases and disorders without surgical procedures.

The Department recently purchased a new CT Scanner, offering the advantages of this new piece of equipment include three-dimensional capabilities and a significant increase in the speed of turnaround time — a test which previously took 30 minutes now takes approximately two or three minutes. In addition, up to a third less injectable contrast material is needed for a procedure. Other recent advancements in the Department include advanced digital fluoroscopy and a new mammography unit.

The Department is staffed with Registered Radiologic Technologists and support personnel. The MRMC Radiology Department serves as the largest clinical training site for students of Bacone College’s Radiologic Technology Program.

Medical Imaging

Medical imaging is process used to create images of the human body (or parts and function thereof) for clinical purposes. At Muskogee Regional, for example, medical imaging encompasses x-ray, CT, MRI, Ultrasound and nuclear medicine. These images are used by physicians to diagnose, treat and prevent illnesses or injuries.

Bone Densitometry

Muskogee Regional Medical Center’s bone densitometer takes Bone Mineral Density (BMD) measurements, which enable our radiologist to determine a patients risk of fracture and osteoporosis. Our professionally trained and certified staff utilizes a Lunar DPX Alpha densitometer for high-resolution imaging and fast, precise measurements.

Computed Tomography (CT) Scan

This specialized exam is a non-invasive diagnostic test using a combination of computers and X-ray beams to create cross-sectional images of your body. CT images may be manipulated into several varying angles including 3D reformats that aid in a highly accurate diagnosis. This technology allows the radiologist to pinpoint the origin and extent of many diseases or other abnormalities within the body, particularly with internal organs, blood vessels and bones. The 64 slice CT scanner at MRMC is capable of performing 3D imaging of your heart which allows your cardiologist to assess the overall health of your heart and the possible methods of keeping your heart healthy.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

MRI is a painless alternative to X-rays. With a large magnet, radiowaves and a computer, your body is scanned to provide very detailed pictures of areas that cannot be viewed on conventional X-rays. MRI exams make it possible for physicians to examine certain types of tissue and obtain important information that will help them in the diagnosis of disease, bone and joint abnormalities and a multitude of other possibilities.

Mammography (ACR Accredited)

Mammograms are low energy X-rays of the breast that are used to screen apparently normal breasts for cancer. Early detection of breast cancer is known to save lives. Yearly mammograms are recommended for women 40 and over, though screening schedules should be determined by your physician. And Muskogee Regional has the power of technology in providing digital mammography. With highly detailed images for a more accurate and timely diagnosis.

Ultrasound

Ultrasound imaging or ultrasonography obtains images from inside the body through the use of high-frequency sound waves. The reflected sound patterns are recorded and displayed as real-time, visual images without the use of ionizing radiation (X-ray). Ultrasonography is most often utilized to visualize internal organs along with the movements of the fetus during pregnancy and the blood flow through vessels. Also, our Imaging Services offers a full range of ultrasound services that includes cardiac, obstetrical and gynecologic, vascular, abdominal, and breast imaging.

Echocardiogram

An echocardiogram is an ultrasound test that uses sound waves to produce images of the heart. An echocardiogram allows the cardiologist to assess the function and structure of the heart to identify abnormalities of the chambers and valves of the heart.

Nuclear Medicine

Nuclear Medicine technology utilizes small amounts of radioactive (radiopharmaceutical) materials that aid in the diagnosis or treatment of certain cancers, heart diseases and other abnormalities that may be present within the body. Nuclear Medicine technology is most commonly used in evaluated the physiology (function) of particular parts of the human body such as the heart, gallbladder and kidneys.
