The Sleep Study Center
Now that I’m scheduled for may sleep study, what happens next?
Arrival
Please check in with the Emergency Department Admissions Clerk between 7:45 p.m. – 8:00.pm. Following patient registration, a technician will meet you in the waiting room and escort you to your private room where you will spend the night.
Interview
After settling into your room, a sleep study technician will explain the entire procedure for the night, and have you answer a few questions regarding your medical history and your sleep habits. Our patient interview is structured to give us not only a general description of why you are there to see us, but also to give us some insight as to what we need to look for over the course of your study. Feel free to ask questions at any time.
Hook-up
Please not let the word “hook-up” frighten you. We promise that we will not poke or probe you. Your scalp will be measured and six electrodes will be laced on your head, temples and chin that will allow us to monitor your brain activity and record your sleep patterns. We will also be monitoring your breathing, heart rate, oxygenation, snoring, body movements and body position as you sleep during the night. The technician will describe everything he/she is doing. Don’t worry, we cannot see dreams!
Lights Out
Upon completion of the patient interview and hook-up, the technician is now ready to monitor your sleep. We want you to be as comfortable as possible, not only with the set-up, but also with us. Your comfort with us will directly affect the data we collect on you night’s sleep. The more comfortable you are with us, the better job we can do for you. Please ask your technician any and every question you may have.
Lights On
The technician will wake you up between 5:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. unless an earlier time is specified. The electrodes are easily removed and you will be free to go about your day. Before you leave, you will be asked to complete a survey. We want you to tell us how we did. This is to ensure that we keep our standards at a superior level, as well as give you a chance to grade our performance of your sleep study.
Additional Information
Your sleep study will be performed at Muskogee Regional Medical Center. You will be contacted by a member of the medical center’s Patient Account Services Department to clarify any financial concerns. The sleep study will be interpreted by a physician specially trained in sleep testing. The physician will bill his or her services separately.
